Great Quotes on Purpose

  • “Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.” – Saint Augustine
  • “The command is “Do no work.” Just make space. Attend to what is around you. Learn that you don’t have to DO to BE. accept the grace of doing nothing. Stay with it until you stop jerking and squirming.” – Dallas Willard
  • “Every person needs to take one day away.  A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future.  Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence.  Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.  Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.” – Mary Angelou
  • “A world without a Sabbath would be like a man without a smile, like summer without flowers, and like a homestead without a garden. It is the most joyous day of the week.” – Henry Ward Beecher
  • “Most of the things we need to be most fully alive never come in busyness. They grow in rest.” – Mark Buchanan
  • “Every time we turn to Christ in faith it is like a moment of Sabbath, a little foretaste of eternal rest and glory. The gift of that moment lies not in what we do but what we receive. It is the holy time set aside to receive the greatest gift of God ever has to give, which is himself, in his own beloved Son.” – Philip Cary
  • “At least one indication of unbelief is the tendency to measure life’s challenges against our own adequacy instead of God’s promises. To enter our Sabbath rest, we must put an end to self-reliance – trusting in our own abilities to overcome difficulties, rise above challenges, escape tragedies, or achieve personal greatness.” – Charles Swindoll

14 Things Successful People Do On Weekends

Happy Saturday night everyone! My wife is out doing some “therapy shopping, so I’m taking the opportunity to share an interesting article I found on

The article is 14 Things Successful People Do On Weekends. Weekends are so wasted by most people. Instead of using their non-work time productively, we slip into veg mode and do the least amount possible on all fronts. But successful people see weekends differently. Not necessarily as a chance to get ahead, but a chance to catch up and recharge.

How to Know Your Life Purpose in 5 Minutes

This is a TEDx talk given by Yale graduate Adam Leipzig. I found in just a few short minutes the questions he asks can help you cut through the confusion and really get discernment on your calling.

My only caveat would be that I don’t believe we always get discernment on our life purpose. Often we discover it in stages, like pieces of a puzzle. So I prefer talking about purpose in terms of seasonal purpose, rather than life purpose.

An older person who has the advantage of many life experiences is going to have much more clarity on their “life” purpose than a college freshman will. So if you’re 30 or under, I would definitely recommend using the word “season” instead of “life” when talking about your purpose.

Porn or Purpose: Your Choice

This may be the most important post I’ve ever written. The number one threat to our society isn’t terrorism, drugs, or economic instability. It’s a little four letter word that effects every single demographic, from 80 year old men to little kids: Porn.

Pornography Statistics

I’m trying not to get too theological…but…

There are few things that generate more criticism than pulling out the religion card. So I’m wading into these waters with a bit of fear and trembling.

As a life coach, I am passionate about seeing people discover and live out their purpose. But sometimes there seems to be a block….a sense of vagueness, like seeing your purpose through a foggy window.

The Next 21 Day Challenge Starts Tomorrow!

21 Day Challenge - Anthony Robbins Quote

What is the one change in your life, that if you were successful in making it, would impact your life the most?

So what’s keeping you from making it?

I just finished a 23-day challenge focused on developing a new habit with my schedule. I’ve always been very inconsistent with my sleep schedule, which breeds inconsistency everywhere else. So for 23 days straight I went to bed at 10 pm and got up no later than 6 am. I overslept one time, but got up several mornings before 5 am.

It was a very powerful experiment.

I’ve woken up on my own around 5 am the last two mornings without even needing an alarm.

Running After Purpose

Recently, I heard an interview where it was said that if you chase happiness, you end up unhappy. But if you chase meaning, you will find happiness as a by-product.

Helen Keller Purpose Quote

I honestly don’t think much about happiness. I’m rarely unhappy, so it just doesn’t come up that often.

But I do think about Purpose.

I’ve probably asked “what’s my purpose” a thousand times.

How to Get Clarity on Your Purpose

This week is Purpose Week. It’s like Shark Week, but with less blood and hopefully won’t make you afraid of the ocean.

How to Discover Your Purpose

To start us off, I created a venn diagram to give you a clear visual on how to find your purpose.

Asking “what is my purpose?” is the wrong question. Instead, ask, “what am I passionate about, what are my strengths, and what is my personality?” Get clarity on those three areas and your purpose will come into focus.

If you like it, could you do me a favor and Pin it?

The Puzzle of Purpose

Purpose is like a puzzle. Everyone gets a piece of it, but only a few get to see the front of the box.

For years, I was “waiting” for some mountaintop experience where the clouds would part and God would speak to me about why I was born.

Alas, I live in Florida. Hence…no mountains.

What I’ve discovered is that it is very rare for people to get the full picture of what their life should look like. For most of us, we just get the next piece of the puzzle…meaning we’re able to understand what our purpose is for the current season of our lives.

What is your purpose right now?

And here’s what I want to encourage you with…
