Perfection or Excellence?

We all readily admit perfectionism is usually a bad thing. It often keeps people from sharing their best work with the world because it’s just not quite good enough.

But in the effort to not be a perfectionist, some folks swing too far the other way and settle on average or mediocrity. That’s why I love the quote below. Perfection is impossible, but excellence is not. Set your sights on excellence, and never allow yourself to settle for anything less.

I love Proverbs 10:4. It’s a verse that inspires me to push through fear and take action. I don’t see myself as “lazy” (who does?), but it is a temptation for me to spend my time planning to do something, rather than just do it. This verse is a reminder from God that the things we want in life are usually on the other side of action. What action do you need to take today to move forward towards your dreams?

As you can imagine, I’m a big proponent of creating a vision for your life and then setting specific goals to fulfill that vision. Statistics overwhelmingly enforce the power of goal-setting.

Yet after years of failing to achieve simple New Year’s Resolutions, the majority of the population has given up on goal setting.

Why?

Well…there’s many reasons, such as setting goals that aren’t specific (“get in shape”), not giving the goal a deadline (“learn a new language” great…but when?), not making it measurable (“fall in love”), etc.

But one of the biggest reasons that people fail to achieve their goals is simply this: they forget them.
