STM 003: A New Paradigm on Purpose [Podcast]

In this episode, I talk about a new paradigm on purpose. So many people are frustrated at the lack of clarity they have regarding their purpose. Perhaps there’s a reason for that.

Purpose is a Puzzle

Purpose is like a puzzle…some people know what the final picture is supposed to look like, but most of us only get a few pieces at a time. But is there a way to get more pieces of the puzzle if you feel the need to get greater clarity? Let’s find out.

The Two Best Days Of Your Life

We all can get very specific on the day and time when we were born. But for too many of us, we have no idea why we were born. I believe you can know, in a general sense, the answer to “why” you were born. But more than that, I believe you can know the specific and detailed “why” for the season of life that you are in. If you’re not clear on your “life” purpose, start by defining your “season” purpose…what you are called to do in the season of life you are currently in.

Mark Twain Quote

Don’t get overwhelmed if the answer to your life purpose is vague. Just pull out a journal, grab a cup of coffee, set aside 30 minutes of solitude, and ask God this question:

Why You Don’t Know Your Life Purpose

I encounter so many people who struggle with wanting clarity on their life purpose. I believe clarity is possible, but not always in the way we think it is. This video explains that.

How to Know Your Life Purpose in 5 Minutes

This is a TEDx talk given by Yale graduate Adam Leipzig. I found in just a few short minutes the questions he asks can help you cut through the confusion and really get discernment on your calling.

My only caveat would be that I don’t believe we always get discernment on our life purpose. Often we discover it in stages, like pieces of a puzzle. So I prefer talking about purpose in terms of seasonal purpose, rather than life purpose.

An older person who has the advantage of many life experiences is going to have much more clarity on their “life” purpose than a college freshman will. So if you’re 30 or under, I would definitely recommend using the word “season” instead of “life” when talking about your purpose.

Porn or Purpose: Your Choice

This may be the most important post I’ve ever written. The number one threat to our society isn’t terrorism, drugs, or economic instability. It’s a little four letter word that effects every single demographic, from 80 year old men to little kids: Porn.

Pornography Statistics

I’m trying not to get too theological…but…

There are few things that generate more criticism than pulling out the religion card. So I’m wading into these waters with a bit of fear and trembling.

As a life coach, I am passionate about seeing people discover and live out their purpose. But sometimes there seems to be a block….a sense of vagueness, like seeing your purpose through a foggy window.

Running After Purpose

Recently, I heard an interview where it was said that if you chase happiness, you end up unhappy. But if you chase meaning, you will find happiness as a by-product.

Helen Keller Purpose Quote

I honestly don’t think much about happiness. I’m rarely unhappy, so it just doesn’t come up that often.

But I do think about Purpose.

I’ve probably asked “what’s my purpose” a thousand times.

How to Get Clarity on Your Purpose

This week is Purpose Week. It’s like Shark Week, but with less blood and hopefully won’t make you afraid of the ocean.

How to Discover Your Purpose

To start us off, I created a venn diagram to give you a clear visual on how to find your purpose.

Asking “what is my purpose?” is the wrong question. Instead, ask, “what am I passionate about, what are my strengths, and what is my personality?” Get clarity on those three areas and your purpose will come into focus.

If you like it, could you do me a favor and Pin it?

The Puzzle of Purpose

Purpose is like a puzzle. Everyone gets a piece of it, but only a few get to see the front of the box.

For years, I was “waiting” for some mountaintop experience where the clouds would part and God would speak to me about why I was born.

Alas, I live in Florida. Hence…no mountains.

What I’ve discovered is that it is very rare for people to get the full picture of what their life should look like. For most of us, we just get the next piece of the puzzle…meaning we’re able to understand what our purpose is for the current season of our lives.

What is your purpose right now?

And here’s what I want to encourage you with…
